A Summer Apartment In Berlin Reflects The Old Mediterranean Architecture

This summer apartment in Berlin was renovated by design studio Loft Szczecin. Situated in the middle of a forest in the suburbs of the city, this ground-floor flat was designed as a holiday home for a family. As the architects say, the interior reflects the old Mediterranean architecture.

The walls and the ceilings were suffering from damp problems and needed to be dried before the architects could restore them. They covered them with a thick layer of plaster and paint them white. However, some parts of the red brick ceiling remain untouched.  Authentic threshing floors were covered with old bricks. In order to create an open-plan living area, the doors in communal rooms were removed. In the kitchen, stainless-steel countertops and a wooden table were applied. Designers also bought 4 very rare, Bauhaus style grey armchairs at the auction and completely restored them. Those were manufactured in a small Polish factory in Zadziel. Another piece of furniture is from a designer’s personal collection.
