Proarh Renovates an Old Cottage in Croatia

Architectural firm Proarh has renovated a cottage, located near Kumrovec, Croatia. Before the renovation, the building was in a poor condition but the architects decided to maintain its original structure. Following the traditional heritage and design of the Zagorje region, architects have preserved the external frame, while the porch was replaced with a glass cube. In order to bring more daylight and to create an entrance, the glass cube was extended beyond the main volume. The cottage is divided into three floors: the basement, ground floor, and first floor. One of the most notable features of this building is an authentic straw roof – which has been newly changed and extended over the facade. Also, a new timber terrace was installed.
