Blue, Even Green Old Town in Marocco

Blue-rinsed houses and buildings are traditions inspired old town in Chefchaouen. This beautiful little town was painted blue by the Jewish refugees who lived there during the 1930s. Jewish teachings suggest that by dyeing thread with tekhelel (an ancient natural dye) and weaving it into prayer shawls, people would be reminded of God’s power. The memory of this tradition lives on in the regularly repainted blue buildings.
