Bringing Outdoors Inside

Grégoire de Lafforest’s personal understanding and grasp of space and light is evident throughout this unconventional open plan home. This eye-catching interior was developed inside of a 103m ² apartment in Paris in 2012. The playful design is captivating, distinct, and stylistic. It is a space that I can only describe as an intriguing visual playground. The architect himself describes this space as “a warehouse floor with the boiler of the building in the middle.” Lafforest took one look at the 1,100 square foot loft and re-imagined the space as “a village of six small houses that helped gain volume and life to the space.” The warehouse style construction boasts a steel frame structure and a wonderful open floor plan. Centrally there is a leafy green maritime pine which, along with the glass roof and a greenhouse built inside reassesses the relationship between indoors and outdoors.

In the living room there is a real dried up pine tree attached right in the center of whole living area. With nature as an inspiration for the design, the architect used a cut off tree and it’s dried branches to create an outdoor feeling inside the living area, which gives a relaxed look and feels like an escape from casual dull spaces. The tree is attached with plastic needles to the tree trunk. The two bedroom apartment is comprised of a master suite, children’s suite, a large living and dining room, a kitchen, and bathroom. The whole living room area are located under an A-frame glass ceiling, which generously fills the whole space with light. To enhance this greenhouse effect, Lafforest erected a greenhouse inside the living space, painted it black and fit in a black Ikea kitchen inside. I hope that this genius greenhouse kitchen serves not only as visually and aesthetically appealing part of the interior, but has a practical meaning too. It would be great if those greenhouse windows could close, so when you’re cooking for example- fish, everything else doesn’t smell fishy too.Grégoire de Lafforest Voltaire 07 Bringing Outdoors Inside Grégoire de Lafforest Voltaire 08 Bringing Outdoors Inside Grégoire de Lafforest Voltaire 09 Bringing Outdoors Inside Grégoire de Lafforest Voltaire 10 Bringing Outdoors Inside Grégoire de Lafforest Voltaire 11 Bringing Outdoors Inside Grégoire de Lafforest Voltaire 12 Bringing Outdoors Inside

This wonderful apartment is a perfect example that to create a lively and authentic design you only need a creative mind and a different mindset and it doesn’t depend whether your budget is small or vast. You can find more beautiful projects of this architect Here.
