In order to promote education outdoors and to increase children’s sensory and cognitive perception, Austrian association ‘Waldeulen’ commissioned Bernd Riegger Architektur to design a playground-classroom in the forest that would inspire children’s imagination while learning in nature. Named ‘Spielraum Wald’, this small cabin provides shelter and storage throughout the year. The children are encouraged to store and exhibit everything they have found or made in the forest. A huge window allows to explore the nature even if the weather turns. The ‘forest refuge’ is built from spruce timber and groove planking.
