Block Architecture Studio undertakes the Mt Eliza Sanctuary project to address the unique needs of a young family yearning for a retreat amid their bustling lives. The challenge was to craft a spacious haven with a designated home office to accommodate the business endeavors of both clients.

Navigating Challenges in Design Evolution

Originally envisioned as a first-floor extension offering coastal views, the project encountered unforeseen shifts due to the global pandemic and economic fluctuations. In response, a recalibration was essential to align with the evolving economic landscape.

Delicate Integration and Minimal Disruption

The second iteration of the extension prioritized a gentle touch on the existing house fabric, minimizing both structural impact and disruptions to the family’s daily routine during construction. An illuminated glazed link emerged as a key feature, seamlessly connecting the old and new sections. Despite its modest footprint, the extension seamlessly introduced essential amenities—a master bedroom, lounge, ensuite, walk-in robe, and a home office.

Exterior Harmony and Modern Interpretation

Harmonizing with the original structure, the exterior materials gracefully merge with the form while reinterpreting the painted brick plinth. Emphasis on the depth of the reveals enhances the overall aesthetic. The extension’s form is accentuated through facade stepping and an elevated roof pitch, lending a contemporary touch to the architectural composition.
