Standard Studio renovated this old sugar refinery into a contemporary loft. The project is located in Bloemgracht, Amsterdam at the typical canal house that was built in 1752. Before the renovation, the house was divided into lots of smaller rooms that didn’t function properly. The main goal for the architects was to create an open-plan interior and make the space look like a real loft. The apartment was entirely renovated but the original structure remained the same. To create a feeling of nostalgia and to bring warmth into the space, wooden beams were exposed. The living room, bar, and dining area were placed in the front of the house. At the backside of the kitchen, they build a walk-in closet and a bathroom with a shower for two. At the corner next to the entrance, there’s a sauna, spa, shower, and restroom.
