Vegetarian Cafe Orang+Utan By AKZ Architectura

Ukrainian architecture studio ‘AKZ Architectura‘ designed this awesome veggie cafe in Kyiv. Because of the location, architects hoped that the restaurant would become a bright spot in the area which is populated with soviet-era buildings. The concept was a bright and white place that would stand out when seen from outside and that would hide the main idea behind the bar where toilets are transformed into a jungle. “The city is a jungle and people are smart animals, so they need a place to refill their energy,” said the architects. The green zone was also created to make customers feel like they are in a natural environment.

In order to make it bright, they applied white tiles to the walls and ceilings with dark grout. Also, tiles reflect the Soviet past, when there was only one type of tile for everything – hospitals, schools, pools, and shops. There is only one table that runs along the edge of the restaurant but it has space for 10 diners.
