Wooden Residences In A Lithuanian Nature Reserve By Palekas Architects

Rolandas Palekas collaborated with Plazma Architects to design a complex of houses. Eight residences were built on a hillside surrounded by forests of Pavilnys regional park in Vilnius, Lithuania. There are four old ammunition vaults that once belonged to the Polish army but have never been used . The main concept of the project was to raise the buildings that were situated on the higher side of the hill on columns, in this way letting the natural sunlight to reach the houses. Also, to preserve the authentic facades of ammunition vaults and to make a balance with buildings that are situated on the lower side of the hill. All houses are covered with wooden planks. The houses on the lower side of the hill have a small private courtyards near the stream.
